Meet Your New Principal – Malinda Elliott – Brookvale Elementary

How long have you been with FUSD? – I began as a substitute for the district in 1999.

How long have you worked in education? -  While working as I substitute, I discovered that I enjoyed working with students so much that I went back to college to get my multiple-subject teaching credential.  After a few years of teaching, I decided to back to school once again and get my Masters degree in Educational Leadership.

What is your background? – I have a college degree in Finance & Business Administration.  I worked in the banking & brokerage industry for many years before becoming an educator.  A huge part of an administrator’s time and effort is spent making sure the school budget is being used to meet the needs of all of our students and staff.  My two careers have merged into a new and exciting chapter in my life.

What will you bring to your school? -  I bring to Brookvale my love of learning and belief that ALL students can learn at high levels.

What is your educational philosophy? – I strongly believe in a growth mindset and encourage my students and staff to take risks, embrace challenges, and accept failure as a First Attempt In Learning.

What can students/families expect this year? – Students and families can expect to see me everywhere on campus this year participating in classroom and PTA events.  I love interacting with students and getting to know our Brookvale families.

Anything else you’d like the school community to know about you? – I grew up on a farm in the midwest and my parents still operate a large farming operation.  I could drive a tractor before I could drive a car!
